Bendigo CBD fashion precinct evolves with vintage and sustainable outlets

New pop-up stalls selling recycled denim and locally made knitwear opened this month along Hargreaves Street, marking a clear shift away from fast-fashion chains in Bendigo's core retail zone.

The change comes as rising material costs and winter demand push shoppers toward durable pieces that last multiple seasons rather than seasonal trends. Local traders report that customers now ask first about fabric sources and repair options before price.

Named outlets driving the shift

Two venues anchor the movement. The Bendigo Vintage Collective on View Street expanded its floor space in March to include a mending workshop run by the Bendigo Makers Guild. Across Pall Mall, the seasonal market stall program at the Bendigo Town Hall now hosts four sustainable labels every Saturday, up from two in 2025.

City of Greater Bendigo data shows foot traffic in the CBD rose 12 percent between April and June this year, with the largest gains recorded on weekends when the Town Hall stalls operate. Average spend per customer at participating stalls reached $68, compared with $45 at standard retail outlets in the same period.

Shoppers planning a visit should check the weekly stall roster on the City of Greater Bendigo website before heading to Pall Mall and bring garments for on-site repairs at the View Street location. The next market round begins 18 July.
