The Bendigo Community Sports League is now taking registrations for its spring season, with more than 3,200 players already signed up across 14 different sports, according to the City of Greater Bendigo’s latest participation report.
The league, which operates from the Bendigo Regional Sports Complex off Retreat Road and spreads across local venues including the Queen Elizabeth Oval (QEO) on View Street and Kennington Netball Centre on Nolan Street, is designed for adults and juniors aged 12 and over. It costs $175 for a 14-week season, with gear hire available for an extra $30.
Why now? The spring season kicks off on September 5, 2026, and early-bird discounts-$20 off standard fees-end on August 1. With the recent England versus Norway World Cup quarter-final and Wimbledon finals dominating the news, Bendigo residents are showing renewed interest in participating rather than just watching. The league offers football, netball, basketball, soccer, and even a new walking netball program for those over 50.
The easiest place to begin is at the Bendigo Regional Sports Complex’s main office, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff there can match you with a team based on your experience and fitness level. For those who prefer a less formal introduction, the complex runs ‘Try-a-Sport’ sessions every Saturday morning in August for $5 each. The first session, on August 2, features soccer and netball; the second, on August 9, covers touch football and basketball.
If you’re looking for team-specific contact, the league’s website lists 47 local clubs, including the Eaglehawk Hawks Netball Club (home games at the Eaglehawk Indoor Sports Stadium on Thomas Street) and the Strathfieldsaye Storm Football Club (which trains at the Strathfieldsaye Recreation Reserve on Turners Road). Both have open training nights in the last week of July. The Hawks hold theirs on July 28 at 6:30 p.m.; the Storm on July 30 at 7 p.m.
Insurance is included in the registration fee, covering personal injury during games and training. The City of Greater Bendigo subsidises the program with $80,000 annually, meaning the cost to participants is about 40 percent below comparable leagues in Melbourne, according to council data.
For players ready to join, registration closes on August 15. Payment can be made online or at the complex office. The league requires a medical form for anyone with a pre-existing condition; forms are available on the website or at the office. New participants should bring their own boots or runners-the $30 gear hire covers only things like shin pads, rackets, and bibs.
Games are scheduled on weeknights and Saturdays across Bendigo neighbourhoods, with transport provided for some junior teams from the Bendigo Railway Station on Railway Place. A free shuttle bus runs from the station to the QEO on game days.
For those who miss the August deadline, a shorter summer season runs from November to February, with fees at $145. Sign-ups for that open on October 1.
