Friday and Saturday hotspots

The Sporting Globe draws steady crowds as a starting point. The Courthouse pulls in 25- to 30-year-olds with club tracks and an indoor dance floor. Sound Music features an upstairs dance floor that often serves as a final stop. Starbar offers a large outdoor area and stays open until 5am. Babylon supplies a club-style vibe, while Social caters to a middle-aged crowd with live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Other regular stops include Handle Bar with its garden setting and live music, plus rooftop bars such as Nimbus. Chancery Lane provides a laneway setting for dining and drinks that echoes Melbourne-style precincts.

Newer activities and live music

Tap It In opened recently in a former piano bar and offers knife-throwing alongside mini-golf. Open-mic nights run at The Courthouse and Social. The Deck, once known as Universal Nightclub, has seen lower attendance in recent months.

Live music remains a steady draw at Social Bar & Eating House and at The Vine. Most other venues close at 1am, so the four late licences at Star Bar, The Metropolitan, Tap House and Universal Nightclub determine the final options on any given weekend.
