Bendigo community calendar fills up with local heritage talks, markets and live music gigs

Bendigo’s community events calendar is shaping up for a busy back half of July, with local organisers locking in heritage walks, weekend markets and live music sessions across the city. The lineup reflects the city’s appetite for small-gathering activities as winter settles in.

Heritage and history walks

The Bendigo Historical Society is due to lead two guided walks along the original goldfields trail starting at the old Post Office on Pall Mall, according to the society’s latest newsletter. Each walk runs about 90 minutes and covers the 1850s discovery sites near View Street. No ticket price has been listed yet, but the society says bookings are capped at 25 people per walk to keep groups manageable.

Separately, the Bendigo Library on Hargreaves Street is hosting a lunchtime talk on July 22 about the Chinese heritage of the gold rush era, co-organised with the Golden Dragon Museum. Library staff confirmed the event is free but asked attendees to register at the front desk beforehand because seating is limited to 40 spots.

Markets and music

The weekly Bendigo Produce Market at the Epsom Reserve will run as usual this Saturday, July 18, from 8am until 12:30pm. Stallholder fees remain at $35 per table, the market coordinator confirmed last week. Organisers said about two dozen vendors have already booked, selling everything from fresh apples to homemade chutneys.

Live music fans can catch the acoustic duo The Lasses at the Goldfields Hotel on Saturday night, starting at 7pm. The hotel’s Facebook page says no cover charge applies. Over at the Star Cinema in Eaglehawk, the Bendigo Folk Club has a monthly session booked for July 25, with local acts opening for a touring folk singer from South Australia. Tickets are $15 at the door, with member discounts available.

Most of these events still have capacity, but the historical society warns its walks have sold out early in the past. Anyone interested should check the respective organisation’s website or drop into the Bendigo Visitor Centre on Bull Street for physical programs.
