Bendigo is experiencing a vibrant upswing in arts and entertainment, marked by the launch of the annual Bendigo Winter Arts Festival and the expansion of the Bendigo Art Gallery’s program space. These developments are drawing residents and visitors alike into a deepened cultural scene.
The timing of these arts initiatives is no coincidence. July has traditionally been quieter in Bendigo’s event calendar, but local organisers are keen to reverse that trend with offerings that provide warmth and community connection during the winter months. The Bendigo Winter Arts Festival, held this year from July 10 to 25, brings over 30 events ranging from theatre and music to visual arts and workshops across multiple venues in the city centre.
In parallel, the Bendigo Art Gallery’s recent $4.5 million expansion, completed in June, is already showcasing new exhibitions in its dedicated contemporary art wing on View Street. This includes interactive displays and locally sourced installations that highlight Bendigo’s artistic heritage alongside emerging artists.
The Ulumbarra Theatre on Lyttleton Terrace is another cornerstone of Bendigo’s cultural life, featuring performances that complement the festival’s programming. Tickets for shows range from $25 for community theatre productions to $80 for headline music acts. Nearby, the Capital Theatre’s refurbished spaces are hosting art talks and film screenings, contributing to the city’s enriched entertainment options.
The City of Greater Bendigo’s creative outreach program has reported a 20 percent increase in attendance at cultural events this year compared to 2025. This rise is attributed partly to targeted marketing campaigns and the growing reputation of Bendigo as a creative hub within regional Victoria.
Local cafes and eateries along Pall Mall are also capitalising on the influx, offering special menus and late-night openings coordinated with event schedules, making the arts experience comprehensive and accessible.
For those keen to immerse themselves in Bendigo’s arts scene, the Winter Arts Festival continues through July 25 with workshops, live music, and gallery exhibitions. Advance ticket bookings are encouraged via the Bendigo Festival website, with discounts available for early purchases and multi-event passes priced at $120.
Beyond the festival, the expanded Bendigo Art Gallery will maintain a dynamic exhibition calendar, with plans to introduce monthly artist talks to deepen community engagement. Additionally, local schools and arts organisations are collaborating to incorporate more youth-oriented programming into next season’s offerings, aiming to cultivate the next generation of cultural participants.
Visitors and locals can start their arts exploration at the Bendigo Visitor Centre on View Street, which offers detailed maps and event information, ensuring an accessible and full experience of the city’s artistic vibrancy this winter.
