Bendigo nightlife and social scene sees winter surge

Bendigo venues recorded a 22 percent rise in weekend attendance on July 10 and 11 compared with the same dates in 2025.

The increase follows the opening of three new late-night licences in the city centre and coincides with cooler winter temperatures that push people indoors.

The Bendigo Hotel on View Street extended its live-music schedule to four nights a week while The National Hotel on Pall Mall introduced a Sunday night jazz session that started on July 5.

Venues driving the growth

Both sites sit within a two-block stretch of the central business district that also includes the Capital Theatre and the Bendigo Art Gallery precinct. The Bendigo Hotel now hosts local bands until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays with a $12 cover after 10 pm. The National Hotel keeps its upstairs lounge open until midnight on Sundays with no entry fee before 9 pm.

City of Greater Bendigo licensing data released last week shows 47 active late-night permits operating within the CBD as of July 1, up from 41 in January.

Practical steps for the coming weeks

Residents can check the weekly listings posted every Monday at the Bendigo Visitor Centre on Lyttleton Terrace or on the council website for updated start times and cover charges. Several venues offer discounted entry before 9 pm on Thursdays through the rest of July.

Public transport on the Bendigo bus network runs until 11:30 pm on weekends, with the last service from the CBD departing at 11:45 pm from the Hargreaves Street interchange.
