New Guided Tours Launch Across Bendigo's CBD and Ironbark Districts

Bendigo Heritage Tours launched its winter schedule on 5 July with daily departures from the Visitor Information Centre at 51-67 Hargreaves Street.

Operators added the new dates after Bendigo Tourism recorded a 22 percent rise in tour bookings between May and June compared with the same period last year. The increase coincides with cooler weather that draws more locals and interstate visitors toward shorter, structured outings rather than independent travel.

Routes Through the CBD and Ironbark

One route starts at Rosalind Park and moves along View Street to the Bendigo Art Gallery before crossing into the Ironbark neighbourhood for stops at the former Bendigo Gaol site and the Chinese Museum on Bridge Street. A separate food-focused tour departs from the Bendigo Tramways depot on Tramways Avenue and visits three producers along Mitchell Street, including the Bendigo Wholefoods store and the weekly farmers market at the Showgrounds.

Both programs run at fixed times: the heritage walk leaves at 10am and 2pm, while the food tour operates only on Saturdays at 11am. Each session lasts two hours and caps groups at twelve people to keep the pace steady through narrow laneways.

Booking Details and Costs

Adult tickets cost $38, with concessions at $29 and children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult. Advance reservations are required through the Bendigo Tourism website or by phone to the centre on 5434 6100; same-day spots have been full on six of the first seven days of the new schedule. Participants receive a printed map and a voucher for a hot drink at one of the partner cafes on Pall Mall.

Walkers can check availability for the next available date on the same site or call the centre before 4pm on weekdays. The programs continue through to 30 September, with extra sessions added on public holidays if demand stays above 80 percent capacity.
