Bendigo Nightlife and Social Scene Draws Larger Crowds in Mid-July

Bendigo bars and clubs recorded a 20 percent increase in entry numbers on the first two weekends of July compared with the same dates in 2025.

The rise follows the City of Greater Bendigo decision to allow licensed premises in the central business district to trade until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays from 1 July onward.

Staff at The Exchange on Hargreaves Street said they reached capacity by 10.30pm on both 4 and 11 July, while the Bendigo Hotel on High Street extended its live-music roster to meet demand from patrons arriving from Eaglehawk and Strathfieldsaye.

Venues reporting busiest nights

The Shamrock Hotel on Pall Mall introduced a $12 cover charge after 11pm on Saturdays, yet still turned away groups on 5 July. Across the road, the Capital Theatre hosted a sold-out 10pm cabaret session on the same night with 180 tickets issued at $35 each.

Local data compiled by the Bendigo Chamber of Commerce shows average spend per visitor in the nightlife precinct reached $48 on the weekend of 4-5 July, up from $39 the previous month. The chamber attributed the lift to the new trading rules and a coordinated promotion that listed 14 venues on a single online map.

Transport operators noted extra late buses on routes 5 and 7 departing the city at 1.45am on both Saturdays, carrying 240 passengers combined.

Residents planning a night out are advised to book tables or arrive before 9pm at popular spots along Hargreaves Street and Pall Mall, and to check the City of Greater Bendigo events calendar for any last-minute changes to trading hours.
