Bendigo tour operators recorded 2,800 bookings in June for local experiences, up from 1,900 the same month last year.

The increase comes as schools break for winter holidays and regional visitors seek short-stay activities that fit one or two days in the city centre. Operators say the pattern matches visitor data from the Bendigo Visitor Information Centre on View Street, which logged 4,150 walk-in enquiries last month.

Heritage routes through the CBD

One program runs daily at 10am from the Bendigo Railway Station on Mitchell Street and covers the former mining sites along Hargreaves Street before ending at the Central Deborah Gold Mine. Another option departs from the Golden Dragon Museum on Bridge Street each Tuesday and Friday, focusing on the city's Chinese heritage precinct and the adjacent tram depot. Both routes limit groups to twelve people and last two hours.

Adult tickets cost $38 and include entry to one site on the itinerary. School groups pay a flat $22 per student when booked through the Bendigo Historical Society, which supplies the guides.

Slots for the next four weeks are listed on the Bendigo Tourism website and can be reserved by phone until 5pm daily. Walk-up spaces remain available at the View Street centre for same-day departures when weather permits.
