Bendigo Connectivity Upgrades: What Workers Job Seekers and Professionals Need to Know

Over 46,000 premises in Bendigo can now access faster NBN speeds after completion of the Accelerate Great program, and more than 24,000 premises remain eligible to upgrade. Approximately 3,300 premises are also scheduled for further NBN upgrades that will deliver 100 Mbps uncapped, unmetered speeds.

NBN fixed wireless improvements

These NBN changes sit alongside a $480 million federal investment to upgrade the fixed wireless system. Workers and job seekers who rely on home internet for applications, video interviews or remote tasks can check eligibility through their provider to confirm whether their address qualifies for the higher speeds now available or still scheduled.

100 Gig Bendigo for business users

The City of Greater Bendigo and Bendigo Telco have launched the 100 Gig Bendigo initiative. It uses local fibre infrastructure to give businesses access to 100 Gbps capacity. Professionals running data-intensive work or managing multiple cloud services can contact Bendigo Telco or the City of Greater Bendigo to learn how the service reaches their premises and reduces the digital divide for local operations.

Mobile and public WiFi options

Mobile connectivity is being boosted through one new tower and upgrades to 13 existing towers across Greater Bendigo, which covers 355 km² and more than 100,000 premises. Work is due to finish by 2025 and will support the shift from 4G to 5G. In addition, free superfast public WiFi is already available at over 140 outdoor locations in central Bendigo, with up to 5 GB of daily data provided without any personal information required.

Job seekers and professionals can use these public hotspots for tasks that do not need a private connection. They should also confirm current tower upgrade status with their mobile carrier before relying on 5G coverage in outer areas of the region.
