The $26 million Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct has officially opened, featuring a two-court indoor stadium, kitchen, changerooms, and shared access for community groups outside school hours.
This development adds dedicated indoor space that allows school and community groups to share facilities. The project directly addresses demand for court time in the region by providing purpose-built areas for training and matches.
Major upgrades to Bendigo Stadium and the Bendigo Showgrounds are underway under the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program. Two new courts, refurbished existing courts, and outdoor netball lighting are being installed at the sites.
Bendigo Stadium will host four NBL games over the next two seasons. Confirmed fixtures include Melbourne United against Cairns Taipans on January 7 and Brisbane Bullets on January 21, 2026. These matches will use the upgraded courts once works finish.
La Trobe University's new Bendigo Sports Centre opened recently. It offers indoor and outdoor courts for netball, basketball, volleyball, and badminton, plus a gym, oval, and fitness studio. A free trial period runs until August 22.
The City of Greater Bendigo provided a $100,000 interest-free loan to the privately owned Golden Square ice rink. The funding requires facility upgrades and a new financial plan to keep the venue operating.
These projects together expand court availability and maintain existing venues for ongoing community use. Works at Bendigo Stadium and the Bendigo Showgrounds are expected to complete in late 2026. Local groups can now book time at the new Junortoun and La Trobe facilities while the ice rink continues with the support plan in place.
