Bendigo Breakers secured a 28-12 victory over the Ballarat Boars on Saturday afternoon at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.

The result arrives as international rugby draws fresh scrutiny following the Wallabies loss to France earlier in the week. Clubs across regional Victoria now field more inquiries from juniors and sponsors seeking to capitalise on renewed interest in the code.

Players from the Breakers train three evenings a week at the facilities on View Street and use the adjacent grounds at Lake Weeroona for drills. The club also partners with the Bendigo Junior Rugby Union program that runs Saturday morning sessions for under-14s at the same oval complex.

Numbers behind the surge

Gate receipts reached $18,750 from 2,500 paying spectators last weekend, up from the 1,800 recorded in the corresponding fixture last July. Club membership stands at 340 senior and junior players, a 12 percent increase since the start of the 2026 season according to the Breakers annual report released in May.

The Breakers host the Geelong Cats in a top-of-the-table clash on 19 July at the same Queen Elizabeth Oval venue. Tickets go on sale this Wednesday through the club office on Hargreaves Street, priced at $15 for adults and $8 for juniors, with family passes available for $35.
