Bendigo infrastructure projects target practical gains for residents
Funding commitments for galleries, trails, stadiums and housing infrastructure focus on everyday access and new opportunities across the city.

Construction is set to begin on the $45 million Stage 1 Bendigo Art Gallery redevelopment, the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by the City of Greater Bendigo and backed by $9 million in council investment plus over $34 million in external funding.
Arts facility renewal
The redevelopment will expand the gallery's capacity to host exhibitions and programs, giving residents in central Bendigo and surrounding suburbs improved access to cultural activities without needing to travel further afield.
Active transport and recreation links
A $6 million commitment funds the Bendigo Low Line Walking and Cycling Trail, a 4.4km off-road shared path between Golden Square and White Hills, with an additional $5 million allocated in June 2024. This route connects established residential areas and supports daily commuting and leisure use by foot or bike.
The Victorian Budget allocates $5 million for the Bendigo Stadium upgrade, including two new courts and accessibility improvements, and $5 million for the Bendigo Aspire Project. These changes will increase participation options for local sports groups and community programs.
Housing and local connectivity
Over $11.3 million in federal Housing Support Program funding will upgrade sewer pump stations in Marong and construct 6km of rising mains to unlock 2,369 new homes, including 240 social or affordable dwellings. The 2025/2026 City Budget includes around 230 road renewals, 12 new footpaths, 14 footpath renewals, new roundabouts, tram track upgrades, and bridge renewals such as the Thistle Street and Wade Street footbridge.
These road and path works address maintenance needs on specific local routes while supporting safer movement for residents in multiple neighbourhoods.
Work on the listed projects will proceed according to the timelines set by the City of Greater Bendigo and state and federal funding partners, with updates available through council channels as stages are completed.
