Bendigo Housing Sites Move Forward With Key Decisions on Next Steps

Seventy-three new social and affordable housing units at Myers Street in central Bendigo are now complete and ready for residents, with 75 percent allocated to priority housing waitlists.

Recent Completion at Myers Street

The finished Myers Street development provides immediate housing supply in the city centre. Seventy-five percent of the units go to those on priority waitlists, directly addressing current demand for social and affordable options.

Early Works at Flora Hill

Early works have commenced at the former Bendigo Teachers’ College site in Flora Hill to deliver approximately 160 new homes, including 56 social and affordable units. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, setting a clear timeline for the next phase of building activity.

Virginia Hill Nomination

The Virginia Hill site, covering 2.95 hectares and located 5.5 kilometres north-west of the CBD, is nominated for social and affordable housing development. Proposed plans remain under review, requiring council and state decisions on design and approvals before any construction proceeds.

Annual Growth Targets

Greater Bendigo City Council aims to create 900 new houses per year across five growth areas: Marong, Junortoun, Huntly, Maiden Gully, and Kangaroo Flat. Marong Township is designated as a future satellite town expected to house 8,000 residents by 2030, while around 11,000 new dwellings are projected across Maiden Gully, Huntly, and Strathfieldsaye.

Next steps centre on finalising plans for the Virginia Hill site and confirming construction timelines at Flora Hill. Council will also track progress toward the 900-houses-per-year target across the listed growth areas, with outcomes dependent on approvals and funding allocations in coming months.
