Bendigo saw 47 independent live music events across city venues in June 2026, up from 29 the same month a year earlier, as neighbourhood groups took over bookings and promotion.

The increase reflects pressure on larger promoters from rising venue costs and a post-pandemic preference among residents for smaller, locally organised nights that keep ticket prices low and profits inside the community.

Resident groups anchor the change

The Bendigo Music Alliance, based on Williamson Street in the Ironbark neighbourhood, now runs fortnightly gigs at The Old Church on View Street. A second collective, the Central Victoria Sound Project, has taken over Thursday nights at The Foundry in the CBD, drawing crowds from Pall Mall traders who supply equipment and staff at reduced rates.

Numbers and next steps

Door takings at these two sites averaged $1,850 per night in the past quarter, with entry held at $15 and all proceeds split between performers and venue maintenance. The Alliance will hold its next open planning meeting on 22 July at 7pm in the rear room of The Old Church, where residents can sign up for August roster slots.
